Maurice Malone x Arimatsu Shibori-Some
Handmade One-Of-A-Kind
This one-of-a-kind pair of shibori dyed jeans has been very well-traveled with novel history. Originally hand-dyed by master artist Shoji Fujii in the old town of Arimatsu, in Nagoya City, which has 400 years of history and Japanese heritage creating shibori dyed clothing such as Kimonos for Japanese feudal lords. The shibori dyed selvage denim was then sewn into jeans in Hiroshima, Japan. Later, the jeans were shipped to Brooklyn and partially taken apart, then reconstructed with contrasting rear pockets, which features the handsewn neon orange graphic logo and pre-washed Cone denim waistband by designer Maurice Malone.
The shibori dyed pattern is called Aranami, which translates to raging waves. The artist adapted patterns inspired from the waves and wind of the iconic Japanese painting by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (about 1847), which Miyamoto Musashi riding a giant whale, plunges his sword into its' back.
