From Hip-Hop to high fashion, African American fashion designer Maurice Malone is always moving forward

The image below is from The Daily Magazine Sept. 6, 2003 review of African American fashion designer Maurice Malone’s New York Fashion Week runway show. Maurice produced his first major runway shows in 1997. That year, Fubu and Marc Ecko also presented shows. However, his collection and presentation of sober forward menswear earned him a CFDA nomination for the Perry Ellis New Menswear Designer of the Year Award. His collection later sold in some of the top high-end designer retailers across the country, making him the first major designer from hip-hop fashion to break into the designer market.
