Maurice Malone's first 1-man brand was Fat Mattresses &nd Golden Underwear. It was a menswear collection produced by The Williamsburg Garment Company in 2009. It was a flamboyant merger between streetwear and tailored clothing, which is so popular in designer street style today.
This collection had ideas so original, they required design patents before release. However, the collection proved too challenging without proper financing and Maurice decided to go in a new direction. In 2011, Williamsburg Garment Company, the denim brand was launched because of the cost to develop and bring to market was so much lower, plus he knew it would be an easier sell because he was so well respected as a denim designer.
FM&GU used fabric and factories based in Italy for woven shirts and tailored suits. Cashmere sweaters were produced in China. All artwork by Maurice Malone was created using Adobe Illustrator.
