Meet Rae, my 7-year-old daughter. Born on my birthday, my wife calls her my birthday present. We have denim in our blood.
She has been coming to work with me about 2 to 3-days per week for most of her life. She knows her way around the store and the workshop. The hours of the first Williamsburg Garment Company store on Havemeyer Street was based on her schedule. The store closed on weekdays at 2 pm because I picked her up from school at 2:30 pm, and we'd go to lunch. The store reopened at 3:30 pm.
She could be the world's youngest denim designer. Last week she drew the artwork and made her 1st t-shirt tech pack using Adobe Illustrator. She prefers the program's clean lines and coloring options over her own hand drawings. Just recently she started sharpening her sewing skills.
