Denim School: Maurice Malone Teaches a Jeans Making Workshop
Updated from the original post: August 5, 2025
If you’re ready to take denim design seriously, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

Renowned denim designer Maurice Malone is launching a hands-on Denim Workshop inside the working studio of Williamsburg Garment Company in Brooklyn. This unique denim school experience gives participants the rare opportunity to learn how to make jeans at a professional level using real factory machines in a real denim production environment.
The workshop will begin Sunday, May 3, 2026, and continue for nine weeks, meeting every Sunday evening inside the Williamsburg Garment Company studio.
This program is designed for people who want to understand denim beyond surface-level design—fashion design students, emerging brand founders, and apparel professionals who want deeper knowledge of how jeans are actually made.
This is not a hobby sewing class. It’s an immersive, in-studio experience focused on real-world denim production.
If you’ve tried learning from YouTube or social media videos, you’ve probably discovered the limits of self-teaching. Watching someone sew is one thing. Being inside the studio, asking questions in real time, and working on the same machines used to produce jeans is something completely different.
“This Denim Workshop is part of my quest to help build the next generation of great denim designers,” says Maurice Malone.

What Students Will Learn
During the nine-week program, students will:
-
Learn how to make jeans using real factory machines
-
Understand denim seam construction, stitch types, and build order
-
Watch experienced professionals construct a full pair of jeans from start to finish
-
Learn the fundamentals of pattern making and fit adjustments
-
Develop and sew a fit sample
-
Make pattern corrections and produce a finished pair of jeans
Participants will leave the workshop with a completed pair of jeans they made themselves, along with the technical understanding needed to continue developing denim products on their own.
Real Studio. Real Machines. Real Denim Knowledge.
The workshop takes place inside the Williamsburg Garment Company studio, where jeans are actually produced. Students will learn using the same equipment used in professional denim manufacturing, giving them insight that’s difficult to gain anywhere else.
Enrollment will be limited in order to keep the workshop small, focused, and hands-on.
